Dear Colleagues
20 days have already passed since the the 16th Panhellenic Congress of Regional Anaesthesia, Pain Therapy & Palliative Care took place in Hotel Lucy, in Kavala – Northern Greece, in October 2015. More than 350 participants attended the Congress Proceedings and the critics – evaluation have been extremely positive, in reference not only to the high level of the scientific program, but also to social events and the choice of the congress venue.
During the Congress, ESRA Hellas, presented a really active participation, contributing to the success of the aforementioned scientific event.
More specifically, ESRA Hellas participated through multiple ways, among which the most important are presented below in the following lines:
1.Clinical Workshop: Fluid Management in Surgical Patients under Regional Anaesthesia – Theory and Clinical Practice with Presentation of Clinical Scenaria and Simulation
More than 30 trainees have participated and the discussion opened with presentation of related problems, questions solving, clarification of details, input from internationally known invited speakers and presentation of recommendations for application in clinical practice.
It is worthnoty to mention the substantial role of instructors, speakers, and the supporting company Edwards Lifesciences Hellas, which provided all the necessary equipment for the organization of the Workshop.
2. Interactive Discussion: Current Situation and the Future of Scientific Societies of Regional Anaesthesia – Their Contribution in Education, Training, Research and Knowledge Promotion
Among participants and speakers we have to mention Professor Alain Borgeat (EDRA Board Chair), Florian Locatelli (ESRA CEO) and the ESRA Hellas Directory Board & Research Commitee Members (Ε. Argyra, G. Stamatiou, Ε. Μoka, Ν. Tsaroucha).
During the interactive discussion multiple tasks and topics weere presented: Past, current and future research projects of ESRA Hellas in reference to RA application in Greece, current data regarding EDRA Diploma, as well as the activities of ESRA Hellas in total for the years 2014 – 2015.
The role of ESRA Hellas became known and was promoted and the new joined membership (ESRA Europe – ESRA Hellas) has been announced, with reduced prices for the Greek Anaesthetists, that will be effective from 2016.
3. Round Table Discussion: Regional Anaesthesia & Perioperative Outcome
It was characterized as a really successful scientific event with the participation of both young anaesthetists, enthousiastic with RA, as well as experienced scientists devoted to RA techniques, from the Greek Territory.
The presentations were followed by a lively discussion with presentation of individualized experience, comments on the presented literature, and active input from the audince.
New guidance and recommendations were given, in reference not only to techniques and related drugs, but also to safety protocols applied in RA.
4. Lecture of Professor Alain Borgeat: Failed Spinals – Why?
Current literature data weree preseented in a simple and interesting way and the session was supplemented by a vital and productive discussion.

On behalf of ESRA Hellas Directory Board, we would like to thank the congress organizing and scientific committee for the high level scientific program, and the excellent organization of the event, as well as speakers, participants and instructors for their active contribution and input, during the ESRA Hellas Scientific Activities throughout the congress.
