Regional Anaesthesia Workshops
The Seminar is Addressed to…
Τhe Workshop is addressed to young colleagues, residents or consultants, who have completed at least the second year of specialty and who are interested in Clinical Practice of Regional Anaesthesia, its Application in the Perioperative Period, as well as Acute and Chronic Pain Therapy. The workshop is “closed” to 40 participants each time and will take place annually.
Aims – Educational Curriculum – Syllabus…
The main objective of the program is knowledge, and ultimately certification (through ESRA Diploma – Fellowship in Regional Anesthesia) of Regional Anaesthesia Techniques, as well as of their application in Anaesthesiology Practice and Pain Management.
The Curriculum to be covered is consistent with ESRA Diploma Curriculum and involves three levels:
1. Fundamentals of Regional Anaesthesia
Anatomy of Spinal Cord, Epidural Space, Plexus, Nerves, Local Anaesthetics Pharmacology, Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics of Epidural Space, Theory of Neurostimulation and Ultrasound
2. Clinical Applications of Regional Anaesthesia in Specific Patient Populations and Clinical Situations, using Clinical Scenarios
obstetrics, orthopaedics, elderly, severely ill, ICU patients, patients with clotting disorders, patients with systemic disease, perioperative management of regional anaesthesia and analgesia, regional anaesthetic techniques in pain management, indications – contraindications, complications, safety and sedation of the patient under regional anaesthesia, etc.
3. Hands – On Application of Nerve Blockades using Ultrasound and Neurostimulation on Live Models and Fantoms (where available and appropriate), in groups of 8 -10 people in the three levels of difficulty.
Scheduling…
The detailed program will be deployed in 60 hours (with credits) and will be held in three weekends (Saturday 09.00 – 17.00 and Sunday 09.00 – 14.30).
The first seminar (Part I) will be held on 12th and 13th of December, 2009 at Aretaieion University Hospital, Athens Greece (see detailed program in our website).
The second seminar (Part II) will take place on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th of April 18 2010.
The third seminar (Part III) will take place on Saturday – Sunday, 5th and 6th of June, 2010 (syllabus will be announced on our website soon).

Instructors are ESRA Diplomats, ESRA Diplomats of Part Οne and Anaesthesiologists with specific clinical experience in Regional Anaesthesia and Teaching Capabilities
Certification – Certificate of Attendance…
The Program has been approved and certified by ESRA Europe and can be used as one of the two workshops that are required for the participation in ESRA Diploma Exams. Attendance is absolutely obligatory for all three parts. Final Certificate will refer to actual hours of attendance.
